Manhattan Beach

Located in southwestern Los Angeles County, Manhattan Beach is a well known beach community.  The city sits just south of El Segundo, and to the north of Hermosa Beach, with Redondo Beach and Lawndale to the east.  Since Manhattan is a beach city in Southern California, you could probably guess that the Pacific Ocean is to its west. The population as of the 2000 census was just over 33,000 residents.  The city also had a total of 14,474 households within its limits.

The Manhattan Beach Parks and Recreation Department provides an abundance of facilities for residents and visitors, including  tennis, volleyball, paddle tennis, and basketball.  There are also swimming pools, golf courses, batting cages, athletic fields, jogging paths, and 11 parks covering over 80 acres of parkland.

There is plenty of shopping available in Manhattan Beach.  Perhaps the most intriguing place to shop is downtown, which offers shops and dining of all sorts.  The Manhattan Village mall, downtown's closest rival, also offers a plethora of shops, restaurants, and boutiques for residents and visitors.

The Manhattan Beach School District (MBUSD) offers five elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school.  This award winning school district has received national recognition for its academics, facilities, and teaching staff.
