Palmdale
Incorporated in August of 1962, Palmdale was the first community within the Antelope Valley to do so. Palmdale is located in the northeast section of Los Angeles County, and has an estimated population of 150,000 residents, making it one of the country's top 25 fastest growing cities in the United States. Palmdale currently serves as Los Angeles County's sixth largest city.
While experiencing rapid growth throughout the last 20 to 25 years, the Palmdale City Council has made it a point to maintain its image and provide its residents with state of the art housing units, public transportation, and first class medical facilities. The Palmdale Regional Medical Center, expected to open in 2008, will feature the region's biggest emergency department, as well as a senior housing compound.
The city of Palmdale employs its own parks and recreation department, which maintains the city parks and provides programs for residents of all ages. The Parks and Recreation Department organizes sports leagues for children and adults, as well as special events, bus excursions, and aquatics classes.
The city of Palmdale offers three separate elementary school districts: The Palmdale School District, The Westside Union School District, and The Keppel Union School District. The Antelope Valley Union High School District serves the city of Palmdale's high school students.
