Palos Verdes Estates

Located in the southwestern portion of Los Angeles County, Palos Verdes Estates was considered the 81st richest place in the United States by a 2000 national census.  With a population of 13,340 at that same census, Palos Verdes Estates is considered one of the most prosperous communities in Southern California.

Even though most of the city's shoreline consists of high cliffs, the city faces the Pacific Ocean and does offer a number of accessible beaches which are open to the public.  Incorporated in 1939, Palos Verdes Estates is one of the few remaining communities in Southern California that has no traffic lights.

Palos Verdes Estates is served by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District, which ranks as one of the most prestigious districts in the nation.  The district offers eleven elementary schools, three middle schools, and three high schools.  Palos Verdes Peninsula High School was ranked as the 8th best private or public school in the nation by the Washington Post.

Palos Verdes Estates is the only community on the Palos Verdes Peninsula to have its own police department.  The Estates is currently one of Southern California's most expensive neighborhoods, so Palos Verdes Estates' architecture is protected by an Art Jury, which is a non-governmental group which must approve any exterior application to any building, house, fence, etc.
