Pasadena
Just ten miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles, Pasadena is one of the largest cities in California with an estimated current population of 150,000 residents. Located in the San Gabriel Valley, Pasadena actually means “valley” in Ojibwa.
Pasadena is well known for its sporting events, most notably the Rose Bowl, which is held in early January every year. The Rose Bowl seats over 100,000 fans and is where UCLA plays its home football games. Pasadena offers a wide variety of parks and recreational facilities for its residents, including a 132-acre tranquil area known as Arroyo Seco, which is home to the Rose Bowl, Brookside Park, Brookside Golf Course, and the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center.
Pasadena prides itself on being a city that can accomodate just about anyone. The city is well diversified and is friendly to people of all ages. The city is served by the Pasadena Unified School District, which offers four high schools, three middle schools, and twenty four elementary schools. Pasadena is also home to the world-famous California Institute of Technology. Pasadena City College is located to the northeast. The city also offers several private schools for its residents who choose not to attend the public schools.
A revitalized downtown area includes Old Pasadena, a shopping center that offers an urban mix for entertainment, shopping, and dining. Several events take place in Pasadena throughout the year, including the Tournament of the Roses Parade which is held each year on New Years Day.
