Incorporated in September of 1973, this beautiful city located in Los Angeles County had a growing population of 41,415 at the 2000 census.  The city sits atop of several large cliffs off of the Palos Verdes Peninsula, and is very well known for its breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean.

The Palos Verdes Parks and Recreation Department is one of the best in Southern California, and it has several parks to tend to.  The department offers several programs for Palos Verdes residents, including a REACH program for individuals with developmental disabilities.  Within the city, there are several parks with basketball courts, tennis courts, and playgrounds.  Many of the parks offer ocean views as well.

Rancho Palos Verdes is served by a nationally recognized school district, the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District.  The district has received several national awards for offering some of the best public and private educational programs in the country.

The city has several well known landmarks within its limits.  Rancho Palos Verdes is the former site of Marineland, a former aquatic park that shut down approximately 20 years ago.  The land is currently being developed for housing.  Trump National Golf Course at Ocean Trails is located in Palos Verdes as well.  The Point Vicente Lighthouse, used by the United States Coast Guard, is also nationally recognized for its rich history.
