Rolling Hills Estates

Located on the northern side of the Palos Verdes peninsula, Rolling Hills Estates is a city dedicated to preserving its rural character and maintaining a service oriented and tranquil community for its citizens. Residents enjoy coastal beauty, ocean breezes and year round mild temperatures.

The city is mostly reserved as residential. It is one of the most beautiful and, as described by the Los Angeles Business Journal, one of the wealthiest. The median household income in 2005 was $124,700 with a median house value of $1,463,600. The population is low density with about 8,000 people in 3.6 square miles.

While it does not have any major industries, it does have plenty to do including several shopping centers, which includes The Avenue of the Peninsula regional shopping center. There are several cultural centers: Norris Center for the Performing Arts, the Peninsula Symphony and the PV players. The area also hosts several golf courses, several large parks including the city's major recreation area,  Ernie Howlett Park. This park features a multi purpose field, handball courts, tennis courts, ľ mile running track and equestrian center.

Many people in the area enjoy the South Coast Botanical Gardens. Located on a former landfill, the gardens feature many unique garden environments, such as a Japanese garden, Rose garden, a children's garden and a water garden.

Residents in the area are served by Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District. PVPUSD schools have constantly ranked among the best in California and the nation with both high schools having earned the California Distinguished Schools distinction.  Both high schools have open enrollment to students on the Peninsula, meaning they do not have enrollment boundaries. The Washington Post once ranked Palos Verdes Peninsula High School as the 8th best public or private high school in the nation. Also, Chadwick School is a well known K-12 private school that serves the area.
