Sierra Madre

Sierra Madre is a small city located in the northeastern section of Los Angeles County and had an estimated population of 10.578 as of the 2000 census.  Nestled in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains just below the Angeles National Forest, Sierra Madre neighbors Pasadena to the west and Arcadia to its east.

Historically linked to the San Gabriel Mountains, Sierra Madre has been traditionally known for its popular summer resorts that reside in the Valley dating back to the late 1800s.  Sierra Madre is also well known for its annual Wisteria Festival, which commemorates its 114-year-old wisteria vine, which has been named by the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest blooming plant in the world.

Other fun facts about Sierra Madre include no traffic lights and operating the only volunteer fire department in greater Los Angeles County.  A unique and petite village in the Sierra Madre Canyon is unique because of its winding roads, abundant vegetation, and spectacular views of the San Gabriel Valley.  The village also features a variety of old-fashioned bungalows and cabins, as well as a few restaurants and shops.

Residents of Sierra Madre are served by the Pasadena Unified School District, which features a wide variety of public schools for residents to choose from.  There are also some well-known private schools for students to attend.
