South Gate
Considered one of the “Gateway Cities” that led settlers into Los Angeles, South Gate is a well-built city located in Los Angeles County. In 2005, South Gate had an estimated population of approximately 103,547 residents. Incorporated in January of 1923 by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, South Gate has become popular for Southern Californians to call home.
Among those 103,547 residents there are approximately 23,213 households for locals to choose from. South Gate is a rather family friendly community as evidenced by an estimated 20,056 families residing within South Gate city limits.
The majority of South Gate is served by the Los Angeles Unified School District, which offers a wide variety of public schools for students of all ages to choose from. There are also several private schools that serve the city. High school graduates are encouraged to attend Career College of America and South Gate Satellite Campus, both of which are located in South Gate. Odyssey Continuation School is also located within South Gate's borders.
Locals are proud of a 1990 award given by the National Civic League, which named South Gate a top ten All America City, praising the city for its ability to work together and achieve several difficult challenges. The city has overcome several obstacles since its incorporation, but it is clear that South Gate has the ship headed in the right direction.
