South Pasadena

Established in March of 1888, South Pasadena had a population of 24,292 citizens at the 2000 census.  Few cities in the United States rival South Pasadena when it comes to preserving its city and upholding its goals of keeping it with a small town atmosphere.  Because the streets are not lined with palm trees and Spanish-style houses, South Pasadena resembles more of a midwestern city than a coastal city.

South Pasadena is approximately 10 miles from downtown Los Angeles, which provides easy access to the metropolitan area, as well as nearby universities and attractions.  A growing number of college professors (University of Southern California) call South Pasadena home simply because of its simple commute and quiet neighborhood atmosphere.

South Pasadena is served by the South Pasadena Unified School District, which is composed of five schools.  Even though there are a smaller number of schools in South Pasadena, the district has received remarkably high rankings in the last few years that have placed it in the top percentile in all of California.

South Pasadena offers easy transportation routes for its residents.  It sits near all major freeways, and also offers a variety of public transportation.  LACMTA operates a total of five bus lines that travel throughout South Pasadena, which offer locals an affordable and simple way to commute in and around the city.
