West Hollywood
West Hollywood is bordered to the north by the Santa Monica Mountains, with Hollywood to the east. The current population is just over 37,000, but it should be noted that the nighttime and weekend population brings it to between 80,000 and 100,000, sometimes reaching 500,000 during major events throughout the year.
At the 2000 census, there were approximately 23,120 houses and 5,202 families residing in West Hollywood. There are several landmarks located within West Hollywood. Famous bars and recording studios such as the Whisky Bar and Whiskey A Go-Go are located within the city, as well as the famous Sunset Strip and The Roxy Theatre.
The West Hollywood Halloween Carnival is an annual event that takes place on Halloween. Known as the largest Halloween street party in the United States, the carnival draws an estimated 350,000 people each year. Christopher Street West (CSW) is a Gay pride parade that has been employed since June of 1970 and takes place in downtown West Hollywood the second weekend in June.
West Hollywood is served by the Los Angeles Unified School District, which offers several schools to local residents. The Los Angeles Fire and Police Departments also serve West Hollywood, both nationally recognized emergency services, which help keep the city safe on a daily basis.
