La Habra


This quiet suburb borders Los Angeles County on the north and Fullerton to the south.  A local historian claims that the city's name means “pass through the hills” because of its layout between the Puente and Coyote Hills in the northwest corner of the county.  La Habra is one of the oldest communities in Orange County, and was once part of the land holdings belonging to the San Gabriel Mission.

With a population of just over 67,000, La Habra is a growing community with 31 being the average age. The town landed its first post office, general store, and grammar school back in 1896, and the community hasn't looked back since.  La Habra is mostly known for its citrus crops, as well as walnuts and avocados.   

The La Habra Tennis Center features twelve outdoor, lighted courts that are sure to please tennis lovers.  The center also features a pro shop and several teaching pros to help visitors improve their game.   

The Children's Museum at La Habra is located in Portola Park and is conveniently situated next to a Union Pacific train depot.  The bee observatory is a popular site for the children to see, as well as a model train village and nature walk where children are able to touch stuffed and mounted animals.  The model train track sits 8 ˝ feet off the floor and features 102 feet worth of track.  It runs past billboards and houses, and has regular crossing gates and flashing lights, all model sized, of course.  The museum also features a playground and picnic area.

You and your family can also experience different types of restaurants such as Crazy Bones Barbeque, The Kaiser Grill or La Tablita Restaurant.  The Cat & Custard Cup offers unique English cuisine and atmosphere, and is located on E Whittier Boulevard. After a good time out, guests and residents can find solitude at places like the Sunset Inn, La Habra Motel, Heritage Inn and the Beach La Habra Motel.

Families and individuals can also purchase a home for prices starting at $195,000 up to $2.5 million. La Habra is home to14 public and private schools in the area for children in grades between Kindergarten to 12th. The teacher-student ratio is 22:1, allowing children to have easy access to the teacher as well as many diverse students. La Habra generally receives approximately 14.8 inches of rain fall each year, with temperatures averaging 66 degrees.
