Laguna Woods

Laguna Woods is a city located in Orange County with a population of 16,507 at the 2000 census.  It should come as no surprise that the average age of the city is 78, given the fact that Laguna Woods Village Retirement Community (Leisure World) comprises 90% of the city's population.  A longstanding joke about Laguna Woods is that it's the newest oldest city in the world, because of its recent incorporation and median resident age.

Formerly known as Leisure World, the Laguna Woods Village covers 2,095 acres of property and has been one of the most prominent retirement communities in the United States.  The retirement community offers retirees a chance to stay active while offering a full range of recreational and cultural activities, and at the same time providing them with a safe atmosphere.

The Laguna Woods Equestrian Center is a world-class equestrian center that provides residents (Laguna Woods Village) and guests the opportunity to ride horses with special instruction and beautiful trails.  The equestrian center also holds several special events throughout the year, including horse shows, camps, and cookouts.

The Laguna Woods Village Library offers an enormous collection of books, magazines, and paperback.  The library circulation generally exceeds 140,000 copies nationally.  Staffed by Laguna Woods Village employees, the library is open Mondays through Saturdays.
