Tustin
Positioned on the floodplain of the Santa Ana River and Santiago Creek, Tustin is a city that prides itself on its small town legacy. Tustin offers great views of the Santa Ana Mountains, as well as its most notorious landmark, an area known as the “Red Hill.” The Red Hill sits 347 feet high and its nickname derives from archaic volcanic activity in the sandstone hill, which turned the soil red.
The Tustin Marketplace offers a variety of shopping for locals. The Marketplace consists of over 100 stores and services, and is the perfect place to purchase home furnishings, books, electronics, or apparel. This open-air location is located directly off of the Santa Ana Freeway, and you cannot miss the red brick color scheme and large neon signs that light up the night.
Attractions include the Tustin Museum, which exhibits an abundance of information about the growth and history of Tustin. The Tustin Museum is open the first and third Saturday of each month from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., and every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The Tustin Historical Walk offers tours of an old Victorian home that was built at the end of the 19th century..
The Marconi Automotive Museum, a non profit, special event venue, has created a 30 million dollar collection of fabulous racing cars. Inside the museum, you'll find over 70 astonishing vehicles, including Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and many other exotic Formula 1 cars.
The Tustin Marine Corps Air Station is an amazing place to view twin hangars. The base has been officially closed, but its still possible to observe two of the tallest hangars on the West Coast. They were initially used to accommodate coast guarding blimps during World War II. In the most recent year prior to the base's closure, the air station was used to house Marine helicopters.
Tustin offers a plethora celebrations to its citizens. Easter Egg Hunts are an annual tradition for the kids, while the adults enjoy a 5 or 10K run within the Marketplace to raise money for local charities.
The Tustin Unified School District oversees both primary and secondary education in Tustin. Tustin residents have 17 public and 10 private schools to choose from, and it should be noted that Tustin High School is regionally known for its first-rate Model United Nations Program.
