Open House Compton

Compton is located in the southern part of Los Angeles, and has been an incorporated city since 1888. The city has grown over the years, stretching its population to over 100,000 residents. Officially termed a suburb of Los Angeles County, Compton has grown into an “inner city” community that is very well known throughout the United States.
Often referred to as the “Hub City” because of its unique location and position along the Alameda Corridor, it serves as a passageway for over 25% of the nation's waterborne international trade. Perhaps the location has helped Compton develop as a city and grow as a large industrial center for the city of Los Angeles.
The city is conveniently located near several freeways, including the 710 (Long Beach Freeway) as well as the 110 (Harbor Freeway), the 91 (Artesia Freeway), and the 105 (Century Freeway), which provides residents with easy commutes within or to surrounding cities. Compton also offers a light rail and several bus lines to transport locals. Compton is a very convenient drive to Los Angeles International Airport, and the Compton Airport, which is known as Woodley Field.
Compton residents are served by the Compton Unified School District., which offers 24 elementary schools, 9 middle schools, and 3 public high schools. Children and adults are also provided with a variety of alternative schools, including several private and adult schools.
