Open House Industry

Located in the San Gabriel Valley in Los Angeles County, Industry had a population of 777 at the 2000 census.  Originally incorporated for the purpose of preventing neighboring cities from annexing industrial land for taxes, Industry is one of few cities in the state that charges no business taxes.  Industry is funded mostly from sales tax through retail centers located within the city.

As the name of the city suggests, Industry, California is tailored towards the industrial field.  In fact, 92% of the city is industrial while the other 8% is listed as commercial business.  Home to over 2,200 businesses, Industry currently employs more than 80,000 workers.  It should be noted that Industry is part of the Foreign Trade Zone, which means that it resides physically inside the United States but outside of the United States Customs area.

Industry is served by a total of three separate school districts: The Bassett Unified School District, Hacienda-La Puente Unified School District, and Rowland Unified School District. Industry is home to the Pacific Palms Resort and Conference center, a 175,000 square foot golf service area.  The center features a 294-room hotel, swimming pools, tennis facilities and a clubhouse.  Industry is also home to the Puente Hills Mall, which is a major shopping center that was featured in the Back to the Future movies.
