Open House Long Beach

Located approximately 20 miles south of downtown Los Angeles, Long Beach is the second largest city in Los Angeles County (only to Los Angeles) and the 35th largest city in the United States.  As of the year 2005, the estimated population was 463,956.  Long Beach sits directly between the city of Los Angeles and Orange County.

Long Beach is home to one of the world’s largest shipping ports.  The Port of Long Beach is the second busiest seaport in the country, and $96 billion worth of merchandise passed through the Port of Long Beach in the year 2003.  Primarily known as a container port, the Port of Long Beach also handles bulk cargo.  An estimated 2,800 vessels were accommodated at the Port of Long Beach in 2003.

Long Beach offers a wide variety of neighborhoods for residents to choose from, but perhaps the most attractive are in the Belmont Shore and Naples area, both located in the southeast section of Long Beach.  Younger generations enjoy areas such as the 4th Street Corridor and Pine Avenue, located in downtown Long Beach.  Second Street in Belmont Shore is an area mainly known for its variety of restaurants and happening nightlife.

Several top commercial businesses have decided to set up shop within Long Beach city limits, including Boeing, Verizon, Aerospace, and Gulfstream, all of which have helped boost the economy and provide jobs for local residents.  These companies all benefit greatly from being located near the Port of Long Beach, as well as within such close proximities to nearby Los Angeles.

The Long Beach Unified School District serves the city of Long Beach.  The District offers a variety of public schools for students to choose from, and has received a variety of awards for consistently being one of the top school districts in the state.
