Packing Well for a Move

You have worked hard to earn your possessions. Your family has enjoyed that heirloom for generations. Some things are just irreplaceable. Moving can be hard on a person, and their belongings, so it is important to take some easy precautions that will save you money and frustration. Sometimes in an effort to cut costs, many people use whatever is available to them and assume that wrapping their valuables in newspaper and putting it in a box is enough to guard against breakage. The money you save is often much less than the money it takes to replace broken items. If your possessions are valuable to you, it makes sense to invest in well made supplies created specifically to protect them.  There is much you can do to assure that your items arrive to your destination in good condition.

Invest in well made moving supplies. Moving boxes come in many sizes and are made to fit common household belongings. Proper packing supplies protect against damage.  Use the proper size moving boxes for your items. If the box is too big, it will give your items the opportunity to shift, and possibly break no matter how well wrapped.  Use the proper moving supplies such as packing paper, stretch and bubble wrap.Never “nest” or group wrap breakables like cups or dishes. Wrap each one individually in soft stretch or bubble wrap, or place paper between each piece.  Fill delicate stemware with tissue.  When the original boxes are not available for electronics such as Stereos, DVD players and computers, package separately in well fitting boxes. Line the bottom, sides and top of the box with bubble wrap and shredded paper.
