Blythe
Located on the California-Arizona border in Riverside County, Blythe is an oasis in a busy world. Situated in the Palo Verde Valley, and along the Colorado River, Blythe has long been recognized as having some of the best agricultural land around. Steeped in history, the area is a treasure trove of culture and promise.
Named for Thomas Blythe, a gold prospector who established primary water rights in that region of the Colorado River in 1877, Blythe was incorporated in 1916 as a general law city. The area encompasses 26.8 square miles with a wonderful California desert climate.
The area has long been a winter retreat and Blythe's population more than triples during the winter months with the arrival of visitors seeking relief from their cold climate home states. The Colorado River is a great place for those looking to enjoy the long, hot summers, and abundant sunshine on the water. Boating, fishing, picnicking, and wildlife viewing opportunities abound with the area's six parks, seven campgrounds, seven R.V. parks, 3 boat ramps onto the Colorado River, and an 18-hole public and city-owned golf course. The lush wetland vegetation provides a habitat for a wide variety of wildlife, including waterfowl, resident and migratory birds, making the area popular with campers, hikers, and nature lovers alike.
