El Cajon

Incorporated in November of 1912, El Cajon is a growing city in San Diego County with a population of approximately 95,546.  The city covers fourteen square miles and is considered a General Law City, meaning that legal authority originates within the laws of the State of California.  Known as “the drawer” in Spanish, it refers to the parcel of land granted to the city out of the Mission San Diego Alcala.

The El Cajon Parks Department maintains, protects, and improves the city's parks on a daily basis.  The department is also responsible for mainting median islands, and maintaining the urban forest for the benefit of the city.  There are currently eighteen parks located within the city, many of which feature athletic fields, tennis and basketball courts, and picnic areas.  All parks are open to the public.

The city is home to several colleges, including Grossmont Community College, Cuyamaca College, Kumeyaay Community College, San Diego Christian College, and Southern California Seminary.  The city is also home to six different high schools.
