Escondido
Escondido means “hidden” in Spanish, and for this town located in San Diego County, no other definition could sum it up better. Nestled in the valley of several mountain ranges that make up Southern California, Escondido is located 18 miles inland (of the Pacific Ocean) and thirty miles northeast of downtown San Diego.
The community is known for its fertile ground, and is one of the largest producers in the country of citrus crops. The picturesque views, mild climate, and growing economy leave little room for doubt when pondering its ever-growing population. The estimated population has risen to approximately 140,766 residents, which makes it the fourth largest city in San Diego County.
The San Diego Wild Animal Park, located in Escondido, attracts thousands of visitors from all over each year. The park features a wide variety of animals, where they are able to live in an open habitat. Animals are able to graze, roam, and fly throughout the park, and at the same time the park enables guests to view species that they may not see anywhere else in the world.
The city of Escondido will be the first city in the county to open a light rail service to its residents. The service will open at the end of 2007, and the SPRINTER will run along the coastline, providing residents and visitors with efficient public transportation.
