Lemon Grove

A small town in the midst of metropolitan San Diego County, Lemon Grove is the best of both worlds. Once an isolated rural community, it retains its small town charm while having the convenience of being only 8 miles east of San Diego. The town motto boasts “the best climate on Earth” with year round moderate temperatures, and cool ocean breezes. It is listed on CNNMoney.com under Best Places to Live in California.

To state the obvious, before Lemon Grove was a town, it was indeed, a lemon grove. In fact, the town even has a bit of Roadside America in tribute to the fact. Located near the tracks of the (perhaps misnamed) orange line trolley tracks, sits a giant yellow statue of a lemon. The town was founded by sheep rancher Robert Allison in 1869, incorporated as a general law city in 1977 and now hosts a population of 25,000.

Primary education in the city is provided by the Lemon Grove School District, nationally recognized for technological innovation (LemonLINK).  Grossmont Union High School District (GUHSD) provides secondary and adult education.  Helix High School and Mt. Miguel High School also serve Lemon Grove.

There are five parks including Civic Center Park which features large grassy areas, a custom fountain, historic Canary Island palms, a miniature lemon grove and two historical buildings: the 1897 Parsonage Museum, now home of the Lemon Grove Historical Society; and the H. Lee House, a 1928 Tudor revival home, designed by Frederick Clemeshaw, a San Diego architect.
