San Diego

San Diego is one of the most desirable places to live in the United States, with its wonderful weather, miles of sandy beaches and nearby attractions. With a population of over 1,000,000, it is the second largest city in California and the eighth largest in the United States.

The area is diverse with activity and jobs from technology to agriculture. The University of California, San Diego Medical Center and other nearby research facilities makes the area very influential in biotechnology. It is also home to the telecommunications giant, Qualcomm. The downtown area has undergone an urban renewal with the opening of Horton Plaza and the revival of the Gaslamp Quarter. The once ignored downtown is now a showcase of five-star hotels, restaurants, and chic live-work loft developments. The city blends work-home–fun flawlessly.

The economy of San Diego is greatly influenced by its port, which includes the only major submarine and shipbuilding yards on the West Coast, as well as the largest naval fleet in the world. The cruise ship industry, which is the second largest in California, generates an estimated $2 million annually from the purchase of food, fuel, supplies, and maintenance services. Major national defense contractors General Atomics and Science Applications International Corporation are also headquartered in San Diego, due to San Diego's military influence.

San Diego's beautiful weather and location have also made it a major tourist destination. Attractions include Balboa Park, the San Diego Zoo, Sea World, nearby Wild Animal Park and Legoland, the city's beaches, Qualcomm Stadium and golf tournaments like the Buick Invitational.
