Solana Beach
Solana Beach is a small tranquil town with a vibrant history. The observant find evidence of the early inhabitants, native Americans, in pictographs on many boulders in the area. Later settlers found small metates off Solana Beach Reef which has provided archaeological history from the shell mounds in the area. The Spanish arrived in the area in 1769 to establish a mission and then control was passed to Mexico when it gained independence from Spain in 1822. Following the Mexican War with the United States, California became a U.S. state in 1850. The area has grown slowly but steadily and now has a population of about 13,000.
The 9.3 square miles of Solana Beach encompasses 1.7 miles of beach front which provides excellent opportunities for surfing, scuba diving, snorkeling, body boarding, and swimming. One of the most popular beaches in Solana Beach is Fletcher Cove. It is conveniently located next to the Solana Beach Train Station also accessible by Amtrak.
