Vista

Known as the “Hub of the North County,” Vista is a city alive with culture and activity. It is located just seven miles inland and has a population of 94,000. 50 Fabulous Places to Raise Your Family, 3rd Ed. 2006 by Kathleen Shaputis lists Vista as the seventh best place in the United States for family life, based on jobs and business opportunities, education, climate, and cost-of-living.

Part of the wonderful attraction of Vista is its diversity. Since the 1800s, there has been a large Japanese American community lending its culture and richness to the community. It is home to a Japanese-American Cultural Center and Buddhist Temple, one of only two in California, and over 75 other churches and temples of various denominations. The city seems to blend every culture seamlessly, with each adding its style, flavor and zest for life.

The city hosts a great number of attractions, both educational and entertaining such as Rancho Guajome Adobe and Rancho Buena Vista which are two ranchos built in the mid-nineteenth century, the Wave Waterpark, the Antique Gas and Steam Engine Museum, and two city-supported theaters: the Moonlight Amphitheatre and the Avo Playhouse.

Vista has eighteen elementary schools, six middle schools, and six high schools.

The area has many parks to enjoy; much of them dedicated open land. Two of the most popular parks are Brengle Terrace Park and Guajome County Park.  Brengle Terrace Park houses the Moonlight Amphitheatre, a baseball field, a senior center, a playground, and the city community center. The 557 acre Guajome County Park, in nearby Oceanside, serves Vista as well. It features campsites, horse trails, and the Rancho Guajome Adobe.
